Turkish TV Series to Watch
The popularity of Turkish TV series and dramas has been increasing recently. I was asked to give some suggestions like what to watch, etc. So, here I will be sharing my thoughts on them even though I don’t have time to watch most of them.
And at the end you will find some useful suggestions as well, written and commented on more professionally. All of them have English subtitle, and many of them dubbed in certain languages.
Historical Ones
Dirilis(Resurrection): Ertugrul (2014–2019)
It is one of the best. It is about the heroic story of Ertugrul Ghazi, the father of Osman (Uthman), who founded the Ottoman Empire, as described in IMDB. I only watched some episodes. This tv series is really a success story.
- You can watch it via Youtube or Netflix.
The Magnificent Century (2011–2014)
It is about Suleiman the Magnificent’s life during the Ottoman Empire’s strongest time. Though its IMDB point is relatively low, it is one of the early examples of Turkish TV series that attract the world’s attention. I only watched some epic clips of it regarding interesting stories in history.
- You can watch it via Youtube
Kurulus: Osman (2019 — )
After the success of ‘Resurrection: Ertugrul’, we can see this as a continuation. This one focuses on the life of Osman Bey, the son of Ertugrul Gazi and the founder of the Ottoman Empire.
- You can watch it via Youtube
Uyanis: Büyük Selcuklu (The Great Seljuks) (2020–)
I personally watch and love it. It focuses on the time before Ottoman Empire, when another Turkic Civilization, Great Seljuk Empire, was in power around Central Asia. It also reflects interesting personalities from famous mathematician Omar Khayyam to well-known statesman Nizam al-Mulk. It has a quite nice IMBD score as well. The only disadvantage is that it can include some bloody war scenes from time to time, which can not be suitable for various people, for example for my mom :)
- You can watch it via Youtube
Rise of Empires: Ottoman — Netflix Series (2020–)
It is mini TV series from Netflix. I didn’t watch this, but it has a high IMDB point as well. It includes six episodes in season 1.
- You can watch it via Netflix.
Well, you can find more, of course, but these are the best in the ‘history’ category.
